From a tiny four-hectare site in South Australia's Eden Valley, overlooked by the spire of the historic Gnadenberg church, the Henschke family's single-vineyard, low-yielding ancestor vine shiraz has quietly carved out a name alongside the great single vineyard wines of the world.

The 2005 and 2006 Henschke Hill of Grace, both rated by Stephen and Prue Henschke as exceptional vintages, have been kept aside in the family cellars in perfect cellaring conditions for collectors of back-vintage wines. They tell the story of a unique single vineyard, two distinct seasons and a family of winemakers.

The wines have guaranteed authenticity and provenance and are available as a pair, in an extremely limited release and are presented in a custom-made timber box with a booklet of stories, history, tasting notes, technical information and foreword by James Halliday.

Hill Of Grace 2005
“Very good retention of hue; the bouquet is now moving into secondary mode, with a seamless fusion of the black fruits, oak and tannins. There are highways and byways to explore, but you always come back to the point of departure. Along the way nuances of red fruits have joined in, and the spices previously locked away are now great contributors to the wine. Whereas the ’06 still needs time, this is open for business, and will likely be at its best over the next 9–10 years. Drink to 2025.”

Hill of Grace 2006
“Excellent colour; this is living up to the promise it had when first tasted in Mar ’10; this is still incredibly youthful, its black fruits heightened rather than threatened by the firm tannins on the finish. With the advantage of hindsight, the initial drink-to date of ’26 can be taken out to ’46. The screwcap was a game changer from the outset, but has particular importance for great vintages like this. Drink to 2046.”
