2012 Louis

Eden Valley

Semillon

Pale lemon with green-gold hues. Fragrant aromas of citrus and honey blossom, peach and pink grapefruit supported by more developed notes of candied lemon peel and honey on toast, with hints of chamomile and thyme botanicals. The palate is vibrant and complex with lemon curd, honeysuckle, clover blossom and biscuit, bright granny smith apple-like acidity and a refreshing, long finish.

BACKGROUND

Fourth-generation winemaker, Cyril produced semillon from family-owned vineyards around the Keyneton region since the 1960s. The Louis Semillon is a selection from over 50-year-old vines planted by Cyril in 1968 on the Henschke Eden Valley Vineyard. Since 1995, this wine has been named as a tribute to Cyril’s brother, Louis Edmund Henschke (1919-1990), the fourth-generation grower of the Hill of Grace Vineyard.

VINTAGE

The La Niña pattern weakened in the lead-up to the 2012 vintage, resulting in below-average winter and spring rainfall. Spring was mild with few frost events, however flowering and fruit set were affected by wet, drizzly weather, leading to average yields. Summer was mild, providing slow ripening, with white wines showing delightful aromatics, purity, intensity, excellent acidity and length of flavour.
