Very deep crimson in colour. Definitive Mount Edelstone shiraz aromas of sage and crushed black pepper lead to brightly spiced plum, blue and black cherry characters, enveloped by crushed flowering herbs with cedar nuances. Vibrant, wild forest berries are layered beautifully into a rich and elegantly textured palate with fine velvety tannins and lingering notes of black pepper and sage for an extremely long finish.
A very profound sage note here with wild brambleberries, bay leaf and subtle oak influence, cast across a green-peppercorn and mint-tea nuance with such bright red berries and plums. The palate has a super plush and elegant shape and fine, velvety-tannin texture with plush, long red plums. Such poise and elegance with length and concentration here. An exceptional vintage for Mount Edelstone.
A traditionally wet winter, mild spring and excellent fruit set provided a great start to the 2015 vintage after four vintages with below average yields. Spring was dry and led into a very mild, dry summer with no disease, resulting in fruit with higher natural acidity and incredible flavour and colour concentration. A dry, warm and windy start to January, however, resulted in one of the worst bushfires in the Adelaide Hills in living memory, though well away from our Lenswood vineyards. By the end of the first week, relief came with 60-75mm of rain and a record-breaking coolest January in 11 years. With the onset of veraison at the end of January, the rain was perfectly timed for the old dry-grown vineyards, and the mild weather that followed from February through to April provided for a fairytale vintage. Most of our white varieties and some Eden Valley shiraz were in before Easter, moving on to the rest of our Eden Valley and Adelaide Hills red varieties soon after, and eventually winding down at the end of April as the rain and cooler temperatures set in. The 2015 vintage has provided stunning and elegant shiraz from Eden Valley, that show extraordinary flavour, purity of fruit and acid balance with the potential for excellent ageing.
"Plump, jammy boysenberry and huckleberry flavors harmonize with toasted herb, tobacco and spice notes in this dense red. A thread of juicy acidity keeps the flavors fresh and focused."
“…It’s a deep crimson wine with a multiplicity of aromas and flavours, from spiced plum and black pepper to blackberry, crushed herbs and cedar nuances…”
“Mount Edelstone is one of Australia’s great reds…It’s hauntingly aromatic with fresh garden herbs, black olive, vanilla bean, a hint of pepper; seamless and weighty with silky smooth texture, wonderfully concentrated blackberry and bramble flavours that are deep and unctuous. Marvellous finesse on a long finish.”
"This was the first wine sold in bottle ('52) by Henschke, although it has had to play second fiddle to Grange since '58 when the latter came on stream. New oak is only 22%, and the majority of the oak is French. The vintage was excellent, the flavours deep, with soft blackberry and plum fruits wending their way across the palate, cushioned by cedary oak and carefully polished tannins. It's utterly classic drinking, with unalloyed pleasure now but no less in another 20 years."
“The 2015 release is going to be one of the greats and proves that in good years old vines can produce spectacular results. Abundant and sublime, it’s bright, fresh and ripe with complex herbal and spice aromatics giving way to a complex mouthful of plums and raspberries overlaid with an opulent red berry and earth layer.”

“The release of the 2015 Henschke Mount Edelstone Shiraz is also a sure bet in the cellar, as well as being dangerously approachable now: seductive and earthy, like dusty soil after rain, it’s harmonious, brambly, mouth-filling and long.”
“A delightfully characterful and exuberant Mount Edelstone that ripples and reverberates with a seamless and harmonious panoply of enticing aromatics. The fresh sage, black pepper and bay notes of the site are here in full measure, irresistible in its youth and yet infused with grand potential. Tannins are super fine, velvety and yet with a quiet, calm confidence that carries the finish until kingdom come. One of the greatest.”
"This comes from a biodynamically farmed vineyard now more than 100 years old. In keeping with the vintage, it is more restrained and less opulent than the 2014, yet there's an elegance and poise. Typical vineyard characters of sage and bay leaf, with a sprinkle of pepper."
“Distinctive aromatics. Leathery, almost gamey, with potpourri and roasted plums, blackberry, bay and clove flavours. It’s both soft and zesty, beety and earthen, but also sweet and floral. You get an array. You get an experience. It’s so different to the Hill of Roses, but obviously no lesser. Life. It tastes like a life well lived, or an expression of that, though it’s certainly a wine of vigor. As you drink it the words classic lands in your mind.”
"Lozenges and rubbed herbs, sage and coriander seed. Bright red fruits, deep set and structured, a composure and balance that shows how great vineyards in great years can provide all they need within a single berry. Layered, detailed, a ball of yarn, evolutionary thread, poised to unfurl over time. A great Edelstone from a great year."
"Deepish red colour with just a trace of purple in its rim, the bouquet is pungent raspberry, squashed overripe raspberry, classic Mt Edelstone. The wine is succulently fruit-sweet: gorgeously extravagant fruit floods the palate. It's almost jammy, the fine but persistent tannins just pulling it together on the finish so the aftertaste and follow-through are clean and balanced and refreshing. Lush fruit flavour, astonishing texture, very old-viney, a very impressive Edelstone. A stand-out vintage for this wine."
"Profoundly floral, spicy and incredibly youthful, with a confiture-like bouquet of raspberries, strawberries, redcurrants and blueberries knit with cedar/vanilla oak and backed by a hint of coconut ice. Medium to fullish in weight, it’s remarkably long and elegant, with a vivacious expression of small berry flavours knit with dusty, cedary oak and a drying, faintly chalky spine. From a cooler season, there’s a suggestion of dried herbs and a balance that suggests genuine longevity."
