Garnet in colour with ruby hues. Rich aromas of spicy black cherry, red currant, wild forest fruits and raspberries and cream combine beautifully with herbal nuances of flowering thyme and notes of cedar and vanilla. A deep and brooding palate of black and red cherries is balanced by complex herbal notes and a hint of anise, showing wonderful texture and length with rolling, fine, velvety tannins.
Picked over 3 weeks, matured for 10 months in French oak (21% new). Expected development and good depth to the colour. An interesting decision to delay the release of a relatively light pinot noir for so long. It is neither young nor old in flavour and/or mouthfeel.
A traditionally wet winter, mild spring and excellent fruit set provided a great start to the 2015 vintage after four vintages with below average yields. Spring was dry and led into a very mild, dry summer with no disease, resulting in fruit with higher natural acidity, and incredible flavour and colour concentration. A dry, warm and windy start to January,
however, resulted in one of the worst bushfires in the Adelaide Hills in living memory, though well away from our Adelaide Hills vineyards. By the end of the first week, relief came with 60-75mm of rain and a record-breaking coolest January in 11 years. With the
onset of veraison at the end of January, the rain was perfectly timed for the old dry-grown vineyards, and the mild weather that followed from February through to April provided for
a fairytale vintage.

“This is a powerful pinot with crushed berries and lots of toasted, smoky oak. Full body. Round and chewy. Hints of iodine and oyster shell to the ripe fruit. Bold and fresh.”
“…strong but delicate; it’s like bone china printed out with graphene. The sweet spice notes here and forest berry flavours are quite a delight, as indeed is the wine as a whole. This wine usually has 15% whole bunches but elements of this release had 50%. Very good. Very.”
"Medium to full red colour with a tinge of purple - very bright, the bouquet very pungent and also bright, with black cherry and liqueur cherry, almost cherry jam aromas, the palate slightly dry and firm and showing moderate line and texture. Light to medium-bodied and lightly sinewy..."
