Bright garnet with crimson hues. Captivating aromas of black and red forest fruits; blackberry and mulberry entwine with lifted exotic spice, black pepper, thyme, sage and bay leaf, with hints of fennel and Dutch liquorice. Concentrated and complex flavours of black currant, spicy wild berries and supple red fruits are beautifully balanced with layers of fine, silky tannins and bright acidity, for a deliciously lush and succulent finish.
…Perfume is bright, red cherry, raspberry, brambles, pepper-clove spice and pot pourri with a feature of dried rose petal. So much going on in perfume. Svelte and taut in the palate, exceptionally long too…
A traditionally wet winter, mild spring and excellent fruit set provided a great start to the 2015 vintage after four vintages with below average yields. Spring was dry and led into a very mild, dry summer with no disease, resulting in fruit with higher natural acidity, and incredible flavour and colour concentration. A dry, warm and windy start to January,
however, resulted in one of the worst bushfires in the Adelaide Hills in living memory, though well away from our Lenswood vineyards. By the end of the first week, relief came with 60-75mm of rain and a record-breaking coolest January in 11 years. With the onset of veraison at the end of January, the rain was perfectly timed for the old dry-grown vineyards, and the mild weather that followed from February through to April provided for a fairytale vintage. The 2015 vintage has provided stunning and elegant shiraz from Eden Valley, that show extraordinary flavour, purity of fruit and acid balance with the potential for excellent ageing.
”Such a luxuriant, elegant and complex young wine, this is the younger-vine material from Hill of Grace Vineyard (27-year-old vines in 2015). Multidimensional with brown spices, such as cloves and allspice, dried sage, orange peel, red berries, camphor wood and roses. A succulent palate with elegance and focus, offering blue plums and a very fine core of tannin to support such intense, vibrant fruit. Light, espresso-washed chocolate flavors lie across the fine, long and polished tannins that shape the fresh, balanced finish. A great wine that shows the DNA of the Hill of Grace terroir in a humbler mode. Beautiful now, but this will age for more than two decades. Glass-stopper closure.”
“Medium to deep red colour with very subtle purple tinges, the bouquet very fragrant, minty and herbal, with overtones of tomato ketchup and linament. Later, fragrant balsamic herbs, with a strong component of sage and eucalyptus. The palate is elegant, medium to full-bodied, but not really big – a stylishly structured wine with fine, gentle tannins and easy texture. Sweet balsamic herb flavours. If anything, it lacks grip and structure. A distinctive style, elegant and very long on the palate.’
