"Legacy is a life force across the Barossa. Many of our grape growers, sixth-generation families of German Silesian descent, lovingly preserve the traditions of their forbears, nurturing historic vineyards that have long been part of the Henschke winemaking story.
Enamoured by the shiraz his relatives grew, my father, fourth-generation winemaker Cyril Henschke, crafted the Henschke Dry Red in 1958. Over time, as our vision for this wine grew, it evolved into Keyneton Euphonium with the introduction of cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and merlot, creating a more savoury and textural composition.
The beautiful old-vine parcels of grenache and mataro grown on the alluvial soils of the Barossa Valley inspired the creation of Johann’s Garden in 1996, honouring the legacy of our German Silesian ancestors who first planted these varieties upon settling in the region.
Sometimes, a singular beauty is revealed during red ferment tastings of long-standing grower fruit that is too captivating to blend. These rare discoveries led us to create separate bottlings of Tappa Pass Shiraz in 2002 and Marble Angel Cabernet Sauvignon in 2012.
Together, this remarkable collection captures fascinating moments in time from sites across the Eden Valley and northern Barossa, contributing to the rich legacy of the Henschke family winemaking tradition for generations to come."
