The Henschke Barossa Legacy Collection, featuring 2024 Johann’s Garden, 2023 Keyneton Euphonium, 2023 Marble Angel and 2023 Tappa Pass is now available through fine wine retailers, restaurants and Henschke. The collection celebrates over 150 years of family winemaking history, with six generations inspired by exceptional vineyards across the Eden and Barossa Valleys. Crafted using traditional techniques, these wines capture the character of carefully selected parcels, revealing the depth and diversity of the Barossa.
Enamoured by the shiraz his relatives grew, my father, fourth-generation winemaker Cyril Henschke, crafted the Henschke Dry Red in 1958. Over time, as our vision for this wine grew, it evolved into Keyneton Euphonium with the introduction of cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and merlot, creating a more savoury and textural composition. Now, 65 years on, with the release of the 2023 vintage, Keyneton Euphonium remains one of Australia’s most collected wines.
The beautiful old-vine parcels of grenache and mataro grown on the alluvial soils of the Barossa Valley inspired the creation of Johann’s Garden in 1996, honouring the legacy of our German Silesian ancestors who first planted these varieties upon settling in the region.
Sometimes, a singular beauty is revealed during red ferment tastings of long-standing grower fruit that is too captivating to blend. These rare discoveries led us to create separate bottlings of Tappa Pass Shiraz in 2002 and Marble Angel Cabernet Sauvignon in 2012.
The 2023 season unfolded under cool skies and generous rains, with a long ripening period producing wines of excellent flavour, structure and mature tannins. Abundant winter rainfall shaped the 2024 season, followed by a warm, dry finish and early harvest, yielding vibrant, expressive wines of outstanding quality.
The resulting wines celebrate our long-term relationships with our grape growers, many of whom are sixth-generation families of German Silesian descent, lovingly preserving the traditions of their forebears and nurturing historic vineyards that have long been part of the Henschke winemaking story.
