Pale lemon with green hues. Intense, pure aromas of citrus blossom are layered with finger lime, mandarin, Granny Smith apple, elderflower and lemongrass. The palate opens with a vibrant core of lime zest, fresh lemon and yellow grapefruit, supported by a fine line of acidity leading into a long, dry finish.

BACKGROUND

Fourth-generation winemaker, Cyril developed the Henschke reputation for premium Eden Valley riesling from 1961. This region provides ideal ripening conditions for riesling and a unique track record of exceptional ageing potential. The Henschke Eden Valley riesling vineyard is planted on sandy loam over gravel and bedrock with patches of clay. Since 1992, this wine has been named as a tribute to ancestor Albert Julius Henschke (1888-1955), a highly acclaimed craftsman, artist and sculptor. Julius was recognised for his ornate headstones and angel sculptures at the Gnadenberg Cemetery, as well as his most celebrated work, the inspiring National War Memorial on North Terrace in Adelaide.

VINTAGE

A traditionally wet winter, mild spring and excellent fruit set provided a strong start to the 2015 vintage after four vintages with below-average yields. Spring was dry and led into a very mild, dry summer with no disease, resulting in fruit with higher natural acidity and intense flavour and colour concentration. January began with dry, hot and windy weather; however, by the end of the first week, relief came with 60–75mm of rain and a record-breaking coolest January in 11 years. The rain was perfectly timed for the vineyards and the mild weather that followed from February through to April provided a fairytale vintage. The 2015 vintage delivered outstanding riesling that shows extraordinary flavour, purity of fruit and acid balance with the potential for excellent ageing.
