BACKGROUND

Georg Heidenreich was ordained as a pastor in Hanover in 1866 in the presence of George V and the royal family, where Martin Luther, father of the Reformation, was ordained in 1507. Georg married Anna Meyer, and arrived at Port Adelaide later that year. Their new home for the next 44 years was the Manse in Bethany in the Barossa Valley. Subsequent generations settled in nearby Vine Vale on the deep sands of the North Para River and planted the now 80-year-old bush-vine grenache, which thrives in this environment producing exemplary delicious fragrance, elegance and lithe tannins.

VINTAGE

The 2024 vintage began with high June rainfall, providing a strong foundation for the season, followed by dry conditions from August through to October, and a warmer than average September that accelerated budburst and later phenology. Substantial rain events between late November and early January supported excellent canopy growth and berry development, setting the vines up well for a notably dry summer, with no rainfall in February. Short bursts of heat promoted ripening, leading to an earlier than usual Barossa Valley harvest in late February. Grenache was a standout variety, delivering excellent quality. The 2024 vintage reflects a balance of timely rain, ideal canopy growth, and a dry, warm finish, resulting in vibrant and expressive wines.
